The Beauty of Just Being Together

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90:12 (NIV)

Dear Friend,

I just had to share something that has been sitting on my heart lately. It's something simple, but so tender and powerful. You know how life can get busy, chaotic, and full of to-do lists, and yet God still finds these quiet, ordinary moments to show us what really matters? I’ve been having those moments lately with my family, and it’s been such a sweet blessing.

Recently, during our evening routine, I found myself slowing down and really soaking in the time Jonathan and I spend together when he’s doing his homework. Normally it might feel like just another task to get through… but lately? It’s been different. Watching him learn, grow, and stretch himself, seeing that little spark in his eyes when something clicks, honestly, it has filled me with a kind of joy I didn’t even expect.

It reminded me that these are the moments God gives us, these little windows, to shape our children and also to shape us. There’s something sacred about being present with your child, guiding them, encouraging them, simply being in the room for their unfolding. It’s like God whispers, “Pay attention. This is holy ground.”

And then there are our family nights. Oh, you know we love our games and television shows (Squid Games, especially). We grab our blankets, pile onto the living room sofa, and basically turn the place into a little comfortable retreat. No fancy plans, no perfect choreography. It's just us, snuggled up, sitting on the edge of our seats together, waiting to see what happens next.

It’s funny how these tiny traditions become the threads that weave families tighter. These moments don’t cost a thing, but they’re priceless. They become the memories our children hold onto, the ones that teach them what love feels like, what safety feels like, what home feels like.

And honestly, they teach me too. They remind me to slow down. To be fully present. To enjoy the people God gave me to love. I’m realizing more and more that quality time isn’t just about doing something special, it’s about giving the gift of undistracted presence. It’s ministry. It’s love in action. It’s how we show our families, “You matter. You’re seen. I’m here.”

I truly believe God smiles on these moments. In the laughter on the couch, the shared blankets, the everyday conversations. They are small seeds, but they grow strong roots in our families. When the Bible tells us to number our days, I think part of that wisdom is learning to treasure the simple ones, because we won’t get them back.

So I just wanted to encourage you, my friend... if life feels overwhelming or if you feel like you’re not doing enough, remember that showing up for your family, your presence, your warmth, your attention is more powerful than you think. These little moments? They are ministry. They are legacy. They are holy.  And I’m learning to cherish them like the gifts they are.

Love you much, until next time....

Jen
